Due to changes in the insurance market over the last year, and the continued “Hard Market” environment, we regret we are unable to offer same day or immediate quotations over the telephone or email for drivers that are considered by the insurance companies as High Risk. The process for obtaining quotes in anything reassembling a timely fashion and has become very difficult, taking more than 30 days in many instances. If still required, we will forward the appropriate application forms to complete and returned for review and approval by underwriters.
Have you been labelled a "high risk driver" and now are having difficulty finding insurance at an affordable price? We believe insuring your vehicle shouldn’t be a hassle. Our insurance experts will provide you the correct advice and find you affordable coverage. Unfortunate experiences shouldn’t leave you stranded.
Insurance companies have varying criteria that classify a driver as high risk. The criteria can be driving or non-driving related. Drivers that have a riskier driving record (driving related criteria) or poor insurance history (non-driving related) can be labelled a "high risk driver". If you meet one or more of these criteria the insurance company will classify you as a riskier driver and they will not agree to take on the risk or alternatively will insure you at a high auto insurance premium.
Impaired Driving Convictions
You should never get in the driver’s seat if you’ve been drinking or are under the influence of drugs. Impaired driving is a serious offense. Once convicted with a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) charge it will be a challenge to maintain and get car insurance. A DUI conviction will stay on your record for three (3) years and if you are allowed to drive you will require high risk auto insurance. Many insurance companies will not offer insurance for a DUI driver and you will need our assistance to get a proper quote and coverage in place for you. Maintaining a clean driving record and insurance payment record will be crucial to getting you back to being a responsible insured driver. We are here to help in that process.
Careless or Criminal Driving Convictions
Careless driving, stunt driving, distracted driving and other convictions (some of them classified under the criminal code depending on circumstances) will place you as a high risk driver. A careless driving conviction stays on your driving record for 3 years and will require you to find high risk auto insurance. We will work with you to find the best option at the best price as well as guide you through the process so you can return to being a responsible insured driver again.
Speeding Tickets and Traffic Violations
Accumulating speeding tickets and other driving convictions, not including parking tickets will cause an insurance company to view your driving record as high risk. That record will follow you until it clears, which means not accumulating any further tickets. Speeding tickets is the number one reason a driver becomes classified as high risk and must search for high risk auto insurance. There are three types of traffic tickets; minor, major, and serious convictions. No matter the type of conviction, the number of demerit points, or the fine associated with the ticket, each of these types of convictions can affect your car insurance rates.
Our insurance advisors review your driving record and can predetermine your level of risk, find the best insurance company to place you with at the most affordable rate.
Driver’s License Suspensions
Driving a vehicle while under suspension is a serious conviction and you could lose your driver’s license all together for such an offence. The fine is $1,000 to $5,000 for a first offence and $2,000 to $5,000 for a subsequent offence. Such an offense will also increase your auto insurance rates and label you as high risk.
Serious Or Criminal Convictions: Premiums may increase 100% for each conviction.
Major Convictions: Premiums may increase 25% for each conviction.
Minor Convictions:
Frequent Accidents/ Frequent Claims

Accidents do happen, that’s why we have insurance; however we want to get you to be a safer driver with no accidents. If you’re a driver with multiple at –fault accident claims contact us to get a high risk auto insurance quote.
High Risk Vehicle
So you have an impeccable driving record, however your vehicle itself is classed as high risk which can cause you to require high risk auto insurance. Exotic cars, expensive sports cars, as well as stolen vehicles (that you did not know were once stolen) may require you to have high risk auto insurance. Our insurance experts will be able to provide you options for your one of a kind vehicle that needs extra special care.
Payment Related Issues and Cancellation of a Policy
Missing a payment and paying late does happen. No matter the reason; financial troubles or forgetful memory, the insurance company may choose to not renew your policy. Frequently missed payments can result in your policy being cancelled for non- payment. Once you have a credit history of Non-Payment of Premiums it can be difficult to get insurance. This may require you to explore high risk auto insurance coverage.
Try to pay your premium in full on renewal to avoid this ever becoming a concern. Alternatively if you are on a payment plan, be sure to log it in your calendar, make sure the funds are available and paid on time. If you ever have a concern with your payment, contact your broker and discuss with them so arrangements can be made to avoid damaging your payment and credit history with the insurance companies.
Lapse in Coverage
Insurance companies prefer to see a driver’s insurance history that is claim free, premiums paid on time, and with no interruptions of coverage. A lapse or interruption of coverage can have you considered high risk whether the reason is you didn’t have a vehicle or your license was suspended. There are a variety of reasons your coverage may have lapsed. Let us help you find the best coverage for you.
Previously Uninsured or No History of Insurance
Are you a new driver or never had insurance before? This can classify you as high risk and will result in a higher premium. New drivers have less experience and therefore more prone to accidents. Some companies will accept that risk but at a higher rate. So allow us to help you in finding the best coverage at the best price for you and your personal driving and insurance history.
